Martin Hiles

Twenty six years based in Ghana following previous multi-tasking African experience across the continent – always with an awareness of transport industry best practice across the globe as a Fellow of the internationally diverse Chartered Institute of logistics and Transport (CILT).

For three years (2011 to 2013) managed and reinvigorated Ghana’s’ only inland water transport company – proving that inland water transport is both viable and commercially sustainable and could be extended to other river basins throughout the African continent.

Recently (2017 to date) he has led three international marketing teams to research and prepare to develop Volta River Basin as a West African developmental inland waterway across Ghana and impacting on the West African sub-region – with expectation to introduce the concept to other river basins across West Africa and beyond.

Since 2010 have advised several international development agencies (Roche, SMEC, AEF, DFID / FCDO) on possibilities for inland water transport as a developmental asset for Ghana.

Early 2024 advised various groups on low-cost- to-initiate food security and lower transport costs across Ghana possibilities of inland water transport. Continuing to advocate on such to date.

Continuing to attract anchor clients for inland water transport (Ghana Chamber of Mines, several cement manufacturers) as well as private sector initiatives wanting to start new water transport initiatives, complementary to existing lake transport services – not competing, that will see national food price reductions and food security.
